About Carnival Legend

Carnival Legend is a Spirit-class cruise ship operated by Carnival Cruise Line. Built by Kvaerner Masa-Yards in Helsinki, Finland, the ship entered service on 21 August 2002 and was christened by Dame Judi Dench. Its inaugural voyage was a three-night sailing from Harwich to Amsterdam and back.

Size and accommodation

The ship is 292.5 metres long with a 32.2-metre moulded beam. Carnival publishes a gross tonnage of 88,500, capacity for 2,124 guests at double occupancy and approximately 930 crew members. Its 1,062 staterooms include 50 suites, 632 balcony cabins, 167 ocean-view cabins and 213 inside cabins. Maximum passenger capacity is approximately 2,549.

Dining and bars

Dining choices include the main dining room, casual buffet service, Guy's Burger Joint, BlueIguana Cantina, Fahrenheit 555 steakhouse, Bonsai Sushi Express and the Chef's Table. Bars and lounges include Alchemy Bar, RedFrog Pub and the Heroes Tribute Bar & Lounge. Venue names and availability can change between refits and deployments.

Entertainment and recreation

Facilities include Playlist Productions shows, Punchliner Comedy Club performances, a casino, Serenity adults-only retreat, swimming pools, whirlpools and Carnival WaterWorks. The ship also offers Cloud 9 Spa, fitness facilities, mini golf and dedicated Camp Ocean, Circle C and Club O2 spaces for younger guests.

Refurbishments

A May 2024 dry dock refreshed guest areas and introduced or updated facilities including Heroes Tribute Bar & Lounge, the Chef's Table, Dreams Studio and Carnival Adventures. Carnival Legend returned to service on 20 May 2026 after a further 16-day dry dock in Freeport. That work included a refreshed interior and exterior and the debut of Carnival's "From Sea to Shining Sea" bow crest.

Deployment

Carnival Legend is deployed seasonally rather than operating from one permanent home port. Its programmes have included European cruises from Dover and Caribbean sailings from Tampa, together with repositioning voyages. Guests should consult Carnival's current schedules because home ports and itineraries vary by season.

Machinery and environmental equipment

The ship uses diesel-electric propulsion with six Wartsila 9L46D generating engines and two ABB Azipod propulsion units. It is not LNG-powered. Carnival Australia confirmed that exhaust-gas-cleaning technology had been fitted to the ship by 2014, although the current system type is not publicly specified. No reliable public ship-specific confirmation of shore-power capability was found at the verification date.

Identification

Carnival Legend's IMO number is 9224726. Current vessel-tracking records list MMSI 311001094, call sign C6FF2 and the flag of the Bahamas. Some older Carnival material still lists Panama, reflecting an earlier registration.
