Norwegian Cruise Line has unveiled a new production celebrating Whitney Houston as the headline entertainment aboard Norwegian Aura.

Whitney: A Celebration of Whitney Houston has been created with the Estate of Whitney E. Houston and Primary Wave Music. The 45-minute show will combine live vocals, a live band, contemporary arrangements and immersive visuals when NCL's largest ship enters service in May 2027.

The programme will be staged in the three-storey Aura Theatre & Club, with parts of the performance extending beyond its main stage.

Whitney Houston's music brought to sea

NCL describes the production as a contemporary concert experience inspired by Houston's voice, stage presence and influence on popular music.

The announced song list includes It's Not Right, But It's OK, I Will Always Love You and I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me).

The show follows NCL productions devoted to Prince aboard Norwegian Aqua and Elton John aboard Norwegian Luna. The company says the new programme will use updated musical arrangements, storytelling and visual design rather than attempting to recreate a single Whitney Houston concert.

Pat Houston, executor of the Estate of Whitney E. Houston and president of the Whitney E. Houston Legacy Foundation, said the partnership would give fans a nostalgic opportunity to experience Houston's music performed by live musicians at sea.

ILLUMINOX brings illusions and acrobatics to the theatre

A second 45-minute theatre production, ILLUMINOX: Infinite Wonder Unboxed, will combine large-scale illusions, acrobatics, original music and visual effects.

The original show has been designed as a fast-moving journey through a succession of theatrical surprises. It will also be performed in the Aura Theatre & Club.

The Vinyl Republic expands live music across the ship

The Vinyl Republic will become NCL's newest live-music collective, covering country, rock, funk, blues and pop.

The group will headline two themed performances. The Vinyl Republic's Journey Through Rock will feature music associated with Journey and the wider arena-rock era, while Kickin' It Country will combine current country hits with interactive line dancing.

Performances will not be confined to the main theatre. NCL plans to deploy the musicians around the ship, including appearances in the Penrose Atrium and Improv at Sea.

LunaTique returns as an adults-only experience

LunaTique: Pop Circus will return after making its debut aboard Norwegian Luna.

The adults-only production combines cabaret, circus performance, comedy and cocktails. Its Norwegian Aura version will feature new acts and music and will carry an additional charge.

The ship's entertainment programme will also include Aura FIRST NIGHT, an introductory showcase presented at the beginning of each cruise, and Latin LIVE!, a poolside event featuring singers, dancers and live percussion.

Norwegian Aura to debut in May 2027

Norwegian Aura is currently under construction at Fincantieri's Monfalcone shipyard in Italy. The 170,000gt vessel will accommodate approximately 3,879 guests at double occupancy and will become the largest ship operated by Norwegian Cruise Line.

Its first passenger voyage is scheduled to depart Trieste on 21 May 2027. The seven-night Mediterranean sailing will visit Valletta, Salerno and Civitavecchia before finishing in Barcelona.

A 13-night transatlantic crossing will then reposition the ship from Barcelona to Miami.

From June until October 2027, Norwegian Aura will operate seven-night Eastern Caribbean cruises from Miami, with scheduled calls including Puerto Plata, St Thomas, Tortola and Great Stirrup Cay.

The vessel will switch to Western Caribbean itineraries during winter 2027–28, visiting Roatán, Costa Maya, Cozumel and Harvest Caye.
