Orient Express Corinthian has reached Bridgetown, Barbados, marking the start of the sailing yacht's first season in the Caribbean following a transatlantic voyage from Lisbon.

The arrival opens a new chapter in the inaugural year of the 220-metre vessel, which entered service in the Mediterranean in 2026. Corinthian is now scheduled to operate a collection of short escapes and longer voyages across the Caribbean, the Bahamas and the United States before returning to Europe in spring 2027.

The ship's positioning voyage, named Ocean Rebirth, departed Lisbon on 12 October and travelled to Barbados via Ponta Delgada in the Azores. The 14-night crossing was developed with French beauty house Guerlain and centred on wellness and regeneration at sea.

Corinthian completes its first Atlantic crossing

Orient Express announced the Caribbean programme in advance of the ship's debut, with the transatlantic passage designed to connect its inaugural Mediterranean deployment with its first winter season in warmer waters.

The published itinerary placed Corinthian in Bridgetown at the end of the crossing on 26 October 2026. The company subsequently publicised the arrival and the beginning of the Caribbean season at the end of October. That distinction matters: 26 October was the operational itinerary date, while 31 October was the date on which the arrival was widely reported.

Guests joining the complete Ocean Rebirth voyage travelled from Lisbon to Bridgetown, while the programme was also available as shorter Lisbon-to-Ponta Delgada and Ponta Delgada-to-Barbados sectors. The crossing provided long periods at sea for a programme of treatments, movement, meditation and other wellness experiences created with Guerlain.

Where will Orient Express Corinthian sail?

During its first Caribbean season, Corinthian is set to visit destinations including Barbados, Saint Martin, Saint-Barthélemy, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, the British Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and islands in the Bahamas.

The programme has been designed around relatively short cruises as well as longer combinations. This allows the ship to link established Caribbean destinations with smaller harbours, anchorages and private-island calls that suit its yacht-style operation.

One example scheduled for January 2027 is a five-night voyage from Marigot in Saint Martin to San Juan, Puerto Rico. The itinerary is due to include St Kitts and Nevis, Falmouth Harbour in Antigua and Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands.

Other published voyages include sailings between Bridgetown and Marigot, and round-trip departures from Saint Martin featuring Saint-Barthélemy and Virgin Gorda. The season is expected to continue through spring 2027, when Corinthian will cross the Atlantic again for voyages around the Iberian Peninsula, Mediterranean and Adriatic.

Why the Barbados arrival matters

Corinthian's arrival is significant because it completes the first major repositioning of Orient Express Sailing Yachts and puts the new brand into one of the world's most competitive luxury-cruise regions.

Barbados is both a destination and a practical gateway for southern Caribbean cruising. Bridgetown can support international embarkations and provides access to the Grenadines, the Lesser Antilles and transatlantic air links. Making the island the end point of Corinthian's first westbound crossing also places it naturally at the start of a Caribbean programme extending north through the island chain.

The deployment broadens the Caribbean's small-ship and luxury-yacht market at a time when several established cruise companies are adding more premium and expedition-style capacity. Orient Express is positioning Corinthian differently from a conventional resort ship, emphasising sailing, spacious accommodation, high-end dining and longer periods in distinctive destinations.

Inside Orient Express Corinthian

Orient Express describes Corinthian as the world's largest sailing yacht. The vessel was built by Chantiers de l'Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire, France, and is the first ship in the Orient Express fleet.

The ship accommodates guests in 54 suites, ranging from approximately 45 to 230 square metres. Accommodation includes panoramic windows or terraces, while the onboard service model includes butler service.

Public spaces include five restaurants and private dining areas overseen by chef Yannick Alléno, eight bars, a cabaret, a recording studio, a Guerlain spa, swimming facilities and a marina platform for access to the sea and watersports.

Its sailing system uses three SolidSail rigs, each carrying around 1,500 square metres of sail. The rigid sails are designed to make use of favourable wind conditions, supported by hybrid propulsion using liquefied natural gas. The sails are not a claim that every voyage will be completed entirely under wind power; routes, schedules, weather and operational requirements will determine how the propulsion systems are used.

A new phase in the ship's inaugural year

Corinthian entered service earlier in 2026 and spent its first season sailing in the Mediterranean and Adriatic. The Barbados arrival therefore represents more than a routine seasonal repositioning: it is the first time an Orient Express sailing yacht has operated a full Caribbean programme.

The brand is also preparing to expand its fleet. Sister yacht Orient Express Olympian is under construction and is expected to join Corinthian in 2027, allowing the company to broaden its programme to additional European regions.

For now, Corinthian's arrival places the focus firmly on the Caribbean. The combination of short voyages, small-island calls and a heavily experience-led onboard product gives the ship a distinctive role in the region's winter market.

When did Orient Express Corinthian arrive in Barbados?

The ship's published transatlantic itinerary concluded in Bridgetown on 26 October 2026. The arrival and start of its Caribbean winter programme were publicly reported on 31 October.

What was the Ocean Rebirth voyage?

Ocean Rebirth was a 14-night transatlantic wellness voyage from Lisbon to Bridgetown, travelling via Ponta Delgada in the Azores. It was created by Orient Express Sailing Yachts in collaboration with Guerlain.

How long will Corinthian remain in the Caribbean?

Orient Express has published Caribbean, Bahamas and United States voyages running from autumn 2026 into spring 2027. Corinthian is then scheduled to return across the Atlantic for its next European season.

How many guests can Orient Express Corinthian carry?

The ship has 54 suites. Orient Express markets the vessel as a highly spacious luxury sailing yacht rather than a high-capacity cruise ship.

Is Corinthian powered only by sails?

No. The vessel has three large SolidSail rigs designed to use wind power when conditions permit, alongside hybrid propulsion supported by liquefied natural gas.
