Marella Cruises has confirmed that Marella Discovery 2 will become a permanent adults-only ship from winter 2027, supported by investment in four new onboard concepts.

The change forms part of Marella's newly announced winter 2027 programme. Spaces currently intended for children will be transformed into a speakeasy, escape room, karaoke room and arts and crafts area, giving the ship a broader collection of adults-only entertainment options.

Three winter homeports

Marella Discovery 2 is scheduled to operate from Tenerife and Gran Canaria between November 2027 and March 2028. The ship will then move to Malaga for sailings during March and April 2028.

Although the permanent change begins with the winter 2027 programme, the ship is due to return as an adults-only vessel for a second consecutive winter season. Marella says demand for adults-only cruising is continuing to grow.

New Atlantic Fusion itinerary

The programme includes a new seven-night itinerary named Atlantic Fusion. Sailing from Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, the route is planned to visit Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Puerto del Rosario in Fuerteventura, Arrecife in Lanzarote, Agadir in Morocco and Santa Cruz de La Palma, as well as including a day at sea before returning to Las Palmas.

Marella Discovery 2 will also operate a selection of repositioning cruises. The announced Canarian Collection 2 route will sail from Malaga and include Gibraltar, an overnight call at Funchal in Madeira, Santa Cruz de La Palma, Arrecife, Las Palmas and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Changes across the Marella fleet

The wider winter 2027 programme will see Marella's five ships operating from six homeports in Europe and the Caribbean. Marella Discovery is scheduled to sail initially from La Romana in the Dominican Republic before moving to Palma, while Marella Explorer will alternate between Tenerife and Las Palmas.

Marella Voyager and the existing adults-only Marella Explorer 2 will operate Caribbean itineraries from Barbados.

The cruise line is also expanding its Cruise & Stay programme with 39 additional hotels across Malaga, Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Romana, Barbados and Palma. Its enhanced Suite Service Max package is set to be introduced across Royal Suites, Voyager Suites and Executive Suites throughout the fleet.

Winter 2027 sailings went on sale on 2 July 2026.
