Serenade of the Seas is a 90,090gt cruise ship operated by Royal Caribbean International. Delivered by Meyer Werft in July 2003, she is the third of four Radiance Class ships and a sister to Radiance of the Seas, Brilliance of the Seas and Jewel of the Seas.
The ship was designed to combine Royal Caribbean's resort-style facilities with a more compact profile than the line's later generations of vessels. Large areas of exterior glass, panoramic lifts and the multi-level Centrum help maintain a strong connection with the sea.
Size, capacity and accommodation
Serenade of the Seas measures 293.2 metres in length, has a moulded beam of 32.2 metres and is registered at 90,090 gross tons. Royal Caribbean currently lists approximate capacity for 2,143 passengers at double occupancy and a crew of 827.
Current third-party deck-plan references list 1,074 staterooms and maximum occupancy of approximately 2,578 guests. Accommodation includes inside, ocean-view and balcony cabins alongside junior suites and larger suite categories. Nineteen accessible staterooms are identified in specialist accessibility references.
Dining and entertainment
The ship's main dining room and Windjammer Marketplace provide the principal complimentary dining choices. Additional venues include Chops Grille steakhouse, Giovanni's Table, Izumi and Chef's Table, although availability and charging arrangements can change between sailings.
Entertainment centres on the main theatre and the glass-roofed Centrum. Other venues include Schooner Bar, Safari Club, Casino Royale and a collection of lounges offering live music, quizzes and other scheduled activities.
Activities and outdoor spaces
Facilities aboard Serenade of the Seas include a rock-climbing wall, sports court, fitness centre, main pool deck and an adults-only Solarium. Adventure Ocean provides supervised activities for younger passengers, while the ship also includes a spa and a cinema.
The Radiance Class is particularly associated with sea views. Panoramic windows and glass-fronted public spaces make the design well suited to scenic itineraries such as Alaska, where viewing the landscape forms an important part of the voyage.
Deployment
Royal Caribbean currently deploys Serenade of the Seas seasonally from Vancouver on Alaska itineraries and from San Diego on voyages to the Mexican Riviera and Baja California. Deployment changes between seasons, so passengers should check the cruise line's current programme for confirmed departure ports and routes.
The ship also completed Royal Caribbean's 274-night Ultimate World Cruise between December 2023 and September 2024, visiting destinations across all seven continents during the longest itinerary the company had offered.
Identification and construction
Serenade of the Seas carries IMO number 9228344, MMSI 311492000 and call sign C6FV8. She sails under the flag of the Bahamas and is registered in Nassau.
Meyer Werft built the vessel at Papenburg as yard number 657. The keel was laid in September 2001, the ship was floated out in December 2002 and delivery took place on 30 July 2003. Her maiden voyage followed on 1 August.
Propulsion and environmental equipment
The ship uses a combined gas-turbine and steam-turbine integrated electric-drive arrangement known as COGES. Two GE LM2500+ gas turbines generate power, while heat from their exhaust is recovered to produce steam for an additional turbine generator.
Meyer Werft recorded total generating power of 59,000kW and propulsion power of approximately 40,000kW at delivery. Two electrically driven azimuthing propulsion pods provide a published maximum speed of 25 knots.
Serenade of the Seas is not LNG-powered. Deck7 has not found sufficiently reliable ship-specific confirmation of shore-power capability or exhaust-gas cleaning equipment, so those Ship Index fields remain marked Unknown.
