Queen Anne is the newest ship in the Cunard fleet. Entering service in May 2024, the 114,188gt vessel combines familiar Cunard traditions with a more contemporary approach to interior design, dining, entertainment and wellness.

Construction and delivery

Queen Anne was built by Fincantieri at its Marghera shipyard in Venice, Italy, as yard number 6274. The ship is a modified member of the broader Pinnacle-class family developed for Carnival Corporation & plc, although her exterior profile and interior spaces were created specifically for Cunard.

The ship floated out in May 2023 and was formally handed over to Cunard at Marghera on 19 April 2024. She then sailed to Southampton in preparation for her first passenger voyage.

Queen Anne departed Southampton on 3 May 2024 for a seven-night maiden voyage calling at La Coruña and Lisbon. She became the 249th ship to sail under the Cunard name and expanded the fleet to four vessels alongside Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth.

The ship is registered at Hamilton, Bermuda. Her permanent IMO number is 9839399, her MMSI is 310835000 and her call sign is ZCHE5.

Size and capacity

Fincantieri records Queen Anne at 114,188gt, with an overall length of 322.3 metres, a moulded beam of 35.6 metres and a scantling draught of 8.3 metres.

Cunard's current ship page advertises accommodation for approximately 2,956 guests and 1,225 crew, while the company's frequently asked questions state a capacity of up to 2,996 guests. The difference reflects the way standard and maximum occupancy are presented.

Fincantieri lists 1,498 passenger cabins and 667 crew cabins. Queen Anne spans 14 decks in Cunard and shipbuilder material, although some travel-industry sources count 13 passenger-accessible decks because operational and numbering conventions differ.

Machinery and propulsion

Queen Anne uses diesel-electric propulsion. Four Caterpillar-MaK 12V43C generator engines, each rated at 12,600kW, produce electricity for the ship's propulsion and hotel systems.

Two podded propulsion units rated at 14,500kW each drive the vessel. Fincantieri gives a service speed of 18.3 knots, while Cunard publishes a maximum speed of approximately 22 knots.

The ship was not designed to operate on liquefied natural gas. She entered service with shore-power capability, allowing her to connect to a compatible landside electricity supply and reduce the need to run onboard generating machinery while berthed.

Accommodation

Accommodation ranges from inside and ocean-view cabins to balcony staterooms and larger suites. As on Cunard's other ships, the principal dining room is linked to the accommodation category booked.

Britannia guests dine in the Britannia Restaurant, while Britannia Club passengers use the Britannia Club Restaurant. Princess Grill and Queens Grill guests have their own restaurants and access to the Grills Lounge and private outdoor areas.

Queen Anne carries a larger selection of Britannia Club accommodation than Cunard's earlier ships. Accessible cabins are available across several grades, while some staterooms can accommodate as many as four guests.

Dining

The ship retains Cunard staples while introducing venues created specifically for Queen Anne. These include Aji Wa, which presents Japanese cuisine, and Aranya, inspired by the flavours of India. Tramonto offers Mediterranean dishes in a relaxed setting.

Other venues include the Britannia, Britannia Club, Princess Grill and Queens Grill restaurants, the Golden Lion pub, the Queens Room, the Pavilion, the Carinthia Lounge and the Commodore Club. Selected voyages have also featured Le Gavroche at Sea residencies developed with chef Michel Roux.

Entertainment and culture

Bright Lights Society is an intimate entertainment venue developed for live performance and cabaret. The Royal Court Theatre hosts larger productions, visiting performers and talks, while the Queens Room provides a setting for afternoon tea, dancing and Gala Evening events.

The Pavilion is a flexible pool-deck space beneath a retractable glass roof. It can host outdoor cinema screenings and other events, including programming developed with the British Film Institute.

Queen Anne also carries a substantial art collection. Cunard and Fincantieri described it during construction as the largest curated art collection at sea, with work integrated throughout cabins and public spaces.

Wellness and outdoor spaces

Mareel Wellness & Beauty includes spa, thermal and fitness facilities, while the Pavilion Wellness Studio provides an outdoor setting for exercise and relaxation. Cunard describes Queen Anne as offering the widest selection of wellness, beauty, thermal and fitness facilities in its fleet at the time of launch.

The ship also introduced the Panorama Pool Club at the stern and retains traditional promenade and open-deck areas intended for walking, sea views and quieter relaxation.

Naming ceremony in Liverpool

Queen Anne was formally named on the Liverpool waterfront on 3 June 2024. In an unusual arrangement, the City of Liverpool was appointed as the ship's godparent in recognition of Cunard's historic relationship with the city.

Five women represented Liverpool during the ceremony: Melanie C, Ngunan Adamu, Natalie Haywood, Jayne Casey and Katarina Johnson-Thompson. The event also featured the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Andrea Bocelli.

Environmental systems

In addition to shore power, Queen Anne carries equipment for processing food waste and an advanced wastewater-treatment system. Water-production and waste-management systems are designed to reduce the quantity of material taken aboard or discharged ashore during operation.

Deck7 has not located a sufficiently clear current primary source confirming the precise type and configuration of any exhaust-gas cleaning system aboard Queen Anne. That index field is therefore marked as unknown rather than inferred from equipment fitted to related ships.

Deployment

Queen Anne operates a broad programme from Southampton, including voyages to the Norwegian fjords, Northern Europe, the Mediterranean, Canary Islands and British Isles. Longer deployments have taken the ship to North America and on World Voyages through the Pacific, Australia, Asia and Africa.

Her arrival returned Cunard to a four-ship fleet for the first time since 1999, giving the company a modern flagship-scale cruise vessel to operate alongside the unique ocean liner Queen Mary 2 and the smaller Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth.
