Ferrol is a historic naval city on the Atlantic coast of Galicia in northwestern Spain. Cruise ships call at the Port of Ferrol, close to the city centre, with the destination offering a mixture of maritime heritage, military architecture and access to the wider Galician region.
The city has a particularly strong connection with shipbuilding and the Spanish Navy. Visitor attractions include the Magdalena district, the Naval Museum, Exponav maritime museum, the Arsenal and the colourful Meninas de Canido street-art route. The 16th-century Castillo de San Felipe stands at the entrance to the ria.
Ferrol is also used as a gateway for excursions farther into Galicia, including Santiago de Compostela. The city centre is approximately 1 km from the cruise port according to Global Ports Holding.
Cruise terminal
Ferrol Cruise Port is operated by Global Ports Holding. GPH publishes five berths and a total berthing line of 1,586 metres, including four quay berths. The port handles alongside cruise calls and is not listed by GPH as a turnaround port.
A new passenger terminal is scheduled to become operational in spring 2027. The development at the outer harbour has a 30-year concession and will be constructed in phases. Phase one provides a 480-square-metre terminal, while the total concession area is 960 square metres.
For cruise passengers
Ferrol's proximity to the city makes independent exploration practical for many visitors, although the exact walking route depends on the berth assigned. Taxis, coaches and organised excursions are available for destinations farther afield.
Passengers interested in naval and maritime history will find much of Ferrol's appeal within the city itself, while Santiago de Compostela is one of the best-known excursion destinations in the wider region.
