Brisbane

Brisbane International Cruise Terminal is a purpose-built mega-cruise homeport at Pinkenba with one dedicated berth, a 450m berth pocket and 14m alongside depth.

Dock

Brisbane International Cruise Terminal at Pinkenba is South East Queensland's purpose-built home for large cruise ships and the principal cruise terminal for Brisbane.

Port of Brisbane lists one dedicated BICT cruise berth. The facility has a 208m physical wharf, but that figure should not be mistaken for maximum ship length: the berth incorporates a 450m berth pocket and four mooring dolphins and was specifically developed for mega cruise ships. Published alongside depth is approximately 14m.

The terminal is a substantial turnaround facility with a two-storey passenger building, immigration and quarantine areas, luggage handling, two passenger boarding bridges, coach/taxi/rideshare areas and extensive onsite parking.

BICT is located at the mouth of the Brisbane River because larger modern ships faced restrictions farther upstream. Port of Brisbane notes that ships longer than approximately 270m previously had to use cargo terminals. Those historical cargo berths are not counted by Deck7 as present-day cruise BONUS BERTHS.

The terminal is approximately 12km from Brisbane Airport and 21km from Brisbane CBD. Unlike Sydney's Circular Quay, this is not a walk-off-into-the-city terminal, so most passengers use transfers, taxis, rideshare or private transport.

Terminal information

Brisbane International Cruise Terminal (BICT) at Pinkenba/Luggage Point is South East Queensland's purpose-built mega-cruise terminal and Brisbane's principal cruise homeport. Port of Brisbane lists exactly one Brisbane International Cruise Terminal berth among its operating berths. The two-storey terminal provides arrivals, check-in, security, immigration and quarantine facilities, luggage handling, passenger boarding bridges, parking and ground-transport areas.

Docking and tender information

BICT has one dedicated cruise berth. Port of Brisbane's current facility specification gives a 208m physical wharf, a 450m berth pocket and 14m draft/depth alongside, supported by four mooring dolphins, 200-tonne bollards and cone fenders. The port states that the facility can accommodate all ocean-going cruise ships, including the largest in the world. Deck7 does not treat the 208m physical wharf as a maximum vessel LOA because the 450m berth pocket and dolphin arrangement are specifically designed for much longer ships.

Getting around

Port of Brisbane states that BICT is approximately 15 minutes/12km by road from Brisbane Airport and around 30 minutes/21km from Brisbane CBD. The terminal has onsite parking plus dedicated areas for coaches, taxis, private vehicles and rideshare. It is not a central-city walk-off terminal.

Accessibility

The terminal has two passenger lifts, travelators, accessible parking and toilets, rest points along the elevated passenger walkway and accessible taxi/rideshare arrangements. The passenger walkway can be up to approximately 270m depending on ship position. Passengers needing assistance should notify their cruise line in advance.
