Port of Aberdeen has reported a record cruise season in 2026, welcoming around 54,000 visitors, a 26% increase compared with 2025. The port handled 71 cruise calls, with 13 ships visiting for the first time.

The figures were announced by the port on 13 October 2026, as the destination continues to attract expedition, luxury, premium and mainstream cruise operators.

Norwegian Star sets a new size record

At 294 metres long, Norwegian Star became the longest vessel to visit Aberdeen. Almost half of the year’s calls involved ships measuring at least 220 metres.

Combined gross tonnage rose 24% to nearly 2.5 million. Viking was the most frequent cruise line, accounting for 21 calls.

Visitors support the local economy

The port said cruise calls brought additional customers to shops, attractions and hospitality businesses across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. Greyhope Bay reported stronger turnover on cruise days, while Garioch Heritage Centre welcomed visiting cruise passengers.

VisitAberdeenshire’s Welcome to Aberdeenshire programme involved 42 volunteers contributing 1,250 hours, offering advice and a welcome at the quayside. The programme also received local tourism and volunteering awards.

Cruise bookings now reach 2033

Port officials said bookings already extend to 2033, reflecting longer-term interest from cruise operators. Port of Aberdeen and VisitAberdeenshire are working together through the CruiseAberdeenshire partnership to develop the destination’s appeal.

The port’s growth is linked to its expanded South Harbour facilities, which can accommodate larger cruise ships and provide access to attractions across north-east Scotland.
